If you’re living alone chances are at some point you’ve had feeling of loneliness, possibly often. While Netflix, going out with friends and Facebook can certainly help with that, they don’t always work.
You know what does? Living with someone and if that’s not likely to change any time soon having a pet dog or cat certainly makes for a great alternative.
True they’re an added responsibility. You have to feed and take care of them but in more ways than one they’re also going to be taking care of you.
How so?
- Providing necessary emotional support… As children we learned to turn to our pets for comfort when we were feeling down. We’d read to them, tell them about how we got kicked out of class, how we got an F and almost always they’d make us feel better whether with the woof or a purr. Many elderly quite recently have been given therapy pets to provide them with the emotional support they need so that they don’t feel depressed about their situation in life. You being someone in between could certainly benefit from having a companion with you during the loneliest of your days.
- When you walk your pets you get to walk too… Walking your pet dog or cat may seem like a chore and you may feel like just paying someone to do it for you. But you may want to hold onto your cash and do it yourself. As it turns out this chore makes pet owners not only walk more but also makes them more likely to participate in other physical activities than those who do not own pets.
- Having pets around can make you happy and help you calm down… It’s been proven that regular interaction with dogs, cats and other pet animals can help improve one’s mood significantly. What could be more rewarding than by having a pet to follow you around when you’re at home? Also, as it turns out they make for quite the effective stress reliever which is something that most people living alone could definitely benefit from.
- Your pet will make you more sociable… More so for dogs than others but this still applies to pets in general. Having pets forces you to have to walk outside and that means you get to go out regularly in public. That and the fact that people are more likely to say hello to you because you have a cute furry friend following you around. This makes it easier to be sociable – even if that doesn’t normally come easy for you.
- Pets help you appreciate the simple things in life… Being an adult complicates life. Seriously, it does. We’re introduced to jobs, taxes, bills and a bunch of other responsibilities that we have to juggle on a daily basis. Looking at your pet and how they’re so happy when you give them food or when you play with them you can’t help but appreciate the simple things in life. Besides couldn’t we all use a little snuggle with Fido or fluffy every now and then?
Living alone isn’t easy but having a pet around can certainly help make it a lot less lonely.
